Part I : Where do I live?

The Foyer de l'Esviere with its own church and park

A 2 bis rue Esviere in Angers, France

Hello and welcome to my scrapbook of France! My name is Jocelyn Cordell and I am currently a student at Merrimack College who decided to take a leap of faith and fly overseas to study abroad in Angers, France. Over the course of the fall semester, I will be showing you through my eyes and photography the beauty and wonder of my adventures across the pond as I experience what it truly means to live and study in France

My first post has to do with the heart of my travels - where I will be living for four months. Due to the dedication and hard work of both my amazing French professor Sylvie Pressman and the Merrimack  College Study Abroad Office, I along with Merrimack students Lindsay Costa and Mariah Farbo were fortunate to find a place in the Foyer de l'Esviere, a dormitory style residence for female students living in Angers. It is absolutely stunning, with multiple amenities including a private bedroom (that I unfortunately still need to decorate) with its own personal bathroom, a dining room, a living room with a TV, a land line to make international calls for free, laundry facilities, and my personal favorite: a piano downstairs next to the computer lab. Below is a glimpse of my new home, and for my next post I shall expand further to document my university and the quaint historic center of town. Please feel free to comment or message me if you have any questions and/or would like a larger version of my photos.

Sidenote: Be sure to follow Mariah Farbo's traditional blog of her travels in Europe at  http://farbom.wordpress.com/

The quaint church inside the foyer grounds that I could not help but explore thoroughly

Detailed carvings on the roof of the church - not sure exactly what they are!

The beautiful stained glass window of the church at daybreak

The old steps leading out to the park are very charming

The entrance to the foyer: protected by a gate and two locked doors at all times

I always wanted to see a real wall with overgrown ivy! It surrounds the foyer
The huge peaceful forest glade before the gardens
My preferred spot to sit back, relax, read a book, do homework etc.
My very own hall of trees right outside the door
A quaint natural wood bridge over the park brook; it is actually quite sturdy.
There are religious figures and statues all over the park
Have to love fruit trees all over the place!
The foyer from the back

My saving grace: a piano on the first floor of the foyer!

Why are the plants here exceptionally gorgeous?
My point exactly - reflection off of a first floor window

I sat for two hours nearby and was amazed by the beauty of the figures

Until next time! A bientot! <3
